The BlackTails nail The Laurie Beechman show!!!

By all accounts the CD Release party held at The Laurie Beechman Fri Feb 26th celebrating the release of the bands latest record "Inside Man" was a success, despite the blizzard-like conditions in NYC.

The Laurie Beechman http://www.beechmantheatre.com/ which is located on W.42nd street in New York City, NY, features many great artists from the music and theatre world and sits downstairs in the West Bank Cafe. On this cold night some folks caught a glimpse of Neil Diamond http://www.neildiamond.com/ as well as other notables enjoying the refuge from the wintery evening.

The BlackTails took the stage a little after 7PM and performed for 1 1/2 hrs running through their new material from "Inside Man", as well as, several film noir spy hits like Mission Impossible , Peter Gunn and James Bond. The set also included favorites from their 1st record "Spy Lounge" such as "Up to no good" and "Off the rack" - the single that was responsible for putting the band on the national map due to a licensing deal with Dewars Scotch Whiskey Company. http://www.dewars.com/lda/
William Catanzaro thrilled the audience with his endless array of percussive and other noise making instruments while Dave Blacker brought the house down with some unbelievable solos in "Santa Ana" and Duke Ellington's "Caravan". Derek Landel took over while the band performed "Spy Lounge" with what some described as his best drum solo ever, dazzling his band mates and the audience for over 2 minutes before bringing the tune back in to a roaring close. Fredi Meli on bass, Mike Hashim and sax and Peter Farrell on vocals and keys rounded out the band with killer lines and booty shakin' moves throughout the set. And a usual , there were alot of laughs as the band had fun interacting with a very un-shy audience.
On Twitter one audience member tweeted:

# [Phil] Funny line from The Black Tails: Hand me down to your sister, don't throw me away. From the song, "Off the Rack"

Here's what folks had to say about the night:
"...music was terrific we thoroughly enjoyed Friday night." - Frances, NYC
"...unbelievable! Fun, entertaining and great playing..." -Steve, Portland
"....we had no idea what to expect, this was our first show, wow!, " - Julie, Washington DC

The band thanks everyone who braved the cold and snowy weather and looks forward to seeing everyone again down the road!!!!!!

People often ask what the blacktails are all about...you can read about it on our website www.theblacktails.com . But...I think sharing songs, videos and other artistic things that inspire our music might be more telling...here are 2...enjoy!

Some cool tunes to check out for those of you who love some latin mixed with a sultry vox :
In These Shoes? Kirsty MacColl

and one of my favorites...with a cool gypsy vibe

M - Les triplettes de Belleville

The first post

So this is the official blog of The BlackTails.

Being a musician ain't easy for a whole lot of reasons I won't bore you with. One thing though that is amazing about the life is the constant openess and need for inspiration. It's fuel. I am a sucker and find my inspired by the simplest things I run into in life. Nature, a grt tune, movie, speach, kids whatever.

All I know is when I feel inspired life is electric and when I don't, dim.

The tunes we cover and write in the band are inspired. each and every one of them. West coast swing to gypsy and latin jazz, grt spy themes, 60s rock, big bad swing and so on. the list goes on and on. go to youtube.com/theblacktails to check some of our live shows and while you're at it check out triplets from belleville as well. a very cool french film with a killer gypsy swing number... it inspired the hell out of me. asta
